Save Money on College Books by Renting Them
If you are in college yourself or have a child in college you know how expensive college cost today! So, you need to find ways to save somehow. Campus Book Rentals is the first place you should check! You can save 40-90% Off bookstore prices!! Plus, shipping is FREE both ways!!
Some people are not fond of renting books because sometimes it is just easier to highlight in the book to study right? Well, that is okay!! When you rent from Campus Book Rentals you CAN highlight, underline, and write notes in the margins in the textbooks.
You can customize when you need the books. Some colleges set their time frames different from other, so you chose when and for how long you need to rent the book. If you decide a class isn’t for you and you drop it, just return the book within 30 days and you get a full refund! How awesome is that!
Here is a great example of the money you can save. Say you need the book Abnormal Child Psychology by Mash, Eric J. and Wolfe, David A. just from now till the end of this term at Christmas. On Campus Book Rentals you would only pay $27.26. On Amazon you would pay $42.99 for a used book and $148.00 new. Think of the money you could save!
Make sure to tell your friends about Campus Book Rentals! They have a referral program for every friend you refer you get $5 and they get 5% off their next purchase.
Plus, and this is a really great feeling, when you rent a textbook from Campus Book Rentals they will donate to Operation Smile. Operation Smile is an international charity that provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities for children around the globe. Operation Smile has provided over 200,000 surgeries for FREE since 1982 to families that otherwise would not have been able to afford it in over 60 countries!

This an ingenious idea!! If only I had this option when I was in school! I certainly could have used the help!

I absolutely love this! I remember one of the biggest costs when I was going to school was buying books. We didn’t have the option to rent back in the day! Thank you for sharing this post.

Renting books is definitely the way to go…as long as you can find the exact book you are going to need for your specific course!

Renting books is a great idea, it makes sense to rent instead of buying books you might not make much use of a few years from now!

Thanks! This is good.

This idea seems so obvious I’m not sure why no one thought of it sooner

There are so many textbooks that you need for classes and never need again. This sounds like a great way to deal with books.

This is a great idea to rent books to save money instead of buying an expensive book that they might not even have any use for at some point after they’ve graduated. Thanks for posting!

I like the features of this program. Plus, the fact that they benefit a charity is an added incentive! Personally, I don’t see what the big deal about renting textbooks. It isn’t as though they are so fantastic that you’d want to keep them forever! I remember when a family member was attending college and the cost of books was sky high! We would use the websites alibris and Barnes & Noble for discounts.

That’s what I did when I was in Uni, sometimes I bought them second hand too.

Ugh… I REALLY wish I had done this as an undergrad. (I got my BA in ’04.) But if I recall correctly, renting wasn’t really a “thing” back then– or at least, it wasn’t advertised. We were encouraged to buy used books, and I’d do whatever I could to find deals off-campus. And then when I went on to grad school (MSW, MA, PsyD), I still never rented. I think it was partly out of habit, but also because I was getting to a point in my education and training where I was having to get books that I’d either need to keep for reference (e.g., the DSM), or would want/need to keep on my shelf as a practitioner. (So much money… *weeps silently*)
**** Another bit of advice, if I may add: Don’t be afraid to buy an older/previous edition! For example, if your Bio 101 class is telling you to buy “Some Book About Biology, vol. 17”– BUY VOLUME 16! Chances are, the content is virtually identical. And if you find that your edition is missing anything (unlikely), there should be at LEAST one copy on reserve at the library– and likely elsewhere, too. Or, borrow from a classmate!

I’d certainly rent textbooks if I went back to school.

I think it is a most excellent idea to rent instead of owning them. we always end up donating them after school is done. Last time I tried to donate them, they told me to scrap them, because all the schools are now currently getting all school books on the computer in electronic format.

I wish this had been available when I was in college 50 years ago.
