This is quite interesting and informative, but at the same time a bit depressing when you think what happens to your skin throughout the years (no matter how you try to prevent it). Thankfully, I’m a non-smoker and I lead a some-what healthy life (hey, i can’t lay off the fries completely ) But I’ll definitely start putting sunscreen, at least there are foundations with UV protection now. I am in my late sixties and my skin is in pretty good shape for my age. I have always used a daily moisturizer and sunscreen and I think that helped me, along with good genes. My Mother’s skin is still beautiful and she is 89 years old.

Thanks for this post. It was really helpful. When we’re young, we don’t have a care in the world. And then we get close to 50 & we get blindsided! I have often wondered about the effects of smoking on my skin. Of course, we know smoking has no positive qualities, but I was just about to ask you what DOES it do to your skin. And your post answered that. I just started smoking 9 years ago at the age of 39. I would love to quit. Mostly to save money, but also because cancer runs rampant in my family, on both sides. I have also noticed a dramatic increase in the aging process. I always looked much younger than I was. Not any more.

I need more sleep and less stress, and I think I’ll be good to go. And people, don’t forget your sunscreen! Doing everything you should for your skin won’t magically make the signs of aging go away, but it can certainly reduce them.

This is a lot of good useful information for us ladies. When we think of aging we think of wrinkles and all that other fun (NOT) stuff we have to deal with. But I dont think I really realized to what extent all these thing played for our skin. I have been told quite a few times that my skin looks good for my age – hardly any wrinkles so I quess Im lucky so far. thanks for your info
