Berlin Breaks for Families
Germany’s capital is a city of culture, progression and — ultimately — fun! It’s just as enjoyable for activity seeking families as it is for the culture vultures and art fanatics. If you’re one of the many families booking Berlin breaks, take a look at this guide on what to do over there.
1. Natural History Museum
You can spend a whole afternoon in this fascinating museum! Step back in time to the dinosaur age then make your way through the ages. There are often special exhibitions on show, so be sure to check the website before you go. The museum is closed on a Monday but during opening hours there are strollers available on loan for little tired legs.
2. Berlin Zoo
Based within the beautiful Tiergarten Park, you’ll find Berlin Zoo and the Berlin Aquarium. A single ticket will get you into both attractions. See polar bears, monkeys, seals, penguins and many more wild animals — kids will love it.
3. Kindermuseum MACHmit
This children’s museum based in a renovated church is extremely interactive for kids young and old. They can discover old style toys and play in dressing up boxes or use circus equipment like juggling clubs! The museum also puts on a monthly program of exhibitions.
4. Christmas Market
If you’re visiting the holidays then you have to go to one of the Christmas markets near Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church! Breitscheidplatz is an extremely popular choice in the heart of the city with 170 craft and Christmas stands. The smell of sweet goods alone will make you go weak at the knees.
5. Pinke Panke City Farm
This city farm is an ecologically orientated urban playground with lots of animals for kids, built where the Berlin Wall once stood. As well as pigs, donkeys and sheep, there is also a sandpit and little trikes. There is no admission fee but they do suggest a small donation.
These are just a few ideas on what to do on a holiday in Berlin. There are many small child friendly cafes to eat in, lots with baby changing facilities. The choice of hotels is impressive too, with a whole selection to meet your requirements. Whether in summer or winter, you and the family will have a great time.
