Gorgeous Cyprus with Kids
If you’re looking for a stress-free family holiday destination where you can soak up the sun and paddle in the sea, Cyprus could be the perfect vacation spot for you. There are a host of attractions to keep you and your tots busy on this Eastern mediterranean Island, from beautiful beaches to ancient ruins and animal centers. Here are some of the best.
Visit the Odeon
If you take Paphos flights, be sure to pay a visit to the Odeon near the city’s harbor. This small but perfectly formed 2nd century amphitheater was hewn from limestone rocks and it makes for an impressive spectacle. As well as being a popular tourist attraction, the Odeon serves as a live music and theater venue, so it’s worth finding out if there are any events on during your visit.
Tour the Tombs of the Kings
Another great local attraction that’s ideal for a family day trip is the Tombs of the Kings. This Unesco World Heritage Site can be found just to the north of the Odeon and it’s a great place to get kids interested in history. The ancient tombs were not actually used by royalty. Instead, they got their name because of their impressive appearance. The most spectacular of the seven excavated tombs is No 3, which has an open atrium lined with columns. However, if you are planning to spend all day exploring then make sure to take plenty of food and water with you as there is no shop on site.
Spend a day at Paphos Zoo
Kids and zoos can be a match made in heaven, and so it’s well worth adding Paphos Zoo to your sightseeing itinerary. Set in lush surroundings, it opened in 2003 and is now one of the island’s most popular tourist spots.Famed for its fabulous collection of feathered friends, the bird show is definitely no to be missed. The newly arrived elephants, and the ever friendly giraffes are also firm favorites with the public, you can even stroke them, feed them and have your picture taken for a small fee.
Hit the Beach
An inexpensive way to relax with your children in Cyprus is to hit the beach. There are plenty of sandy spots to choose from too, and one of the best is Peyia. Located a short drive north of Paphos on the West coast, is perfect for families and offers safe swimming conditions. The horseshoe shaped strip of coastline is equipped with sun beds and parasols, as well as a selection of cafes and restaurants. You can test your skills at a range of water sports too, including diving and water skiing.
Enjoy the High Seas
To get a different perspective on the island, book yourself on a boat tour. There are a range of sea cruises available from Paphos, including fun-filled pirate tours complete with entertainment to keep kids busy, allowing you to relax and soak up the rays. These trips give you a chance to see impressive views of the shoreline and to explore the surrounding seas.
Whatever you do on your holidays to Cyprus, you can rest assured you won’t be short of activities to keep your brood busy.
