There are several reasons to make you own homemade baby wipes. Some people like them because you can control the chemicals you put on your baby. I have read several of the labels from different baby wipes and most of them I can not even pronounce! Who wants that on your child?! Another, great reason is that they are cheaper to make yourself! All of you already have a baby wash at home you are using and most of of cook using olive oil. So, you are not having to purchase extra items to make these at home.
What You Will Need:
1/2 roll of heavy duty paper towels (Cheap paper towels will not work ~ they will tear ~ I suggest Bounty Paper Towels, White)
Plastic Container ~ Rubbermaid Lock-its 14-Cup Square Food-Storage Container with Lid or any container with a lid
2 cup boiled water cooled (or distilled or regular water will work if you use them in less than one week)
1 Tablespoon baby wash ~ Look for toxin-free organic products.
1 Tablespoon baby oil, olive oil or coconut oil*
You may need to play around with the measurements of the liquids depending on the thickness of the paper towels you are using. Maybe start with half and then add the rest if needed.
Optional: Essential Oils of choice ~ just a few drops
Directions:
- Clean your working area before you begin ~ You don’t want germs in your wipes ๐
- Cut your paper towel roll in half with a sharp knife. A non-serrated knife sharp knife works best. (save your other have for next time)
- Mix all the liquid ingredients together in a BPA Free measuring cup.
- Put paper towels in your container and pour liquid evenly going around the top of the paper towels.
- Put you lid on and let soak for approximately 10 minutes.
- Turn your container upside down and allow to sit for another 10 minutes.
- Pull out the center cardboard core and the wipes out from the inside. This should also pull the innermost wipe out and start the “pop-up” feed for you.
- Store your homemade wipes in your plastic container, a gallon-size plastic bag, or re-use an old disposable wipes container.

Mindy Glazer says
I know this may sound silly, but I have actually done this for my dog! He had some problems with his ears, and I put some of the ear solution on paper towels, along with baby oil, cut paper towels that I pre cut into a container, and then I had individual pre cut pre treated medicated wipes to wipe his ears out with! They sell them in the pet stores but they are VERY expensive! They DID dry out after a while, but I just needed to add a drop of warm water to re activate, and it was as good as new! Same concept!
Lesa says
What a great idea! These would be handy just to keep in the car, or around the house. Seems easy to do!
Brandi McAtee says
This is brilliant! These will be great just to have around. My kids are grown, 18 & 20, but some of their friends are having babies (craziness!) so I’m definitely going to share with them. One thing I would like to add if I may: I research essential oils a lot for the body butters, sugar scrubs, & lip balms I make and most people agree to only use lavender and/or chamomile on babies’ sensitive skin. So, if you choose to add EO, stick to those two options ๐
