Melissa & Doug Toy Review

 

Have you ever bought any items from Melissa & Doug or wondering if they are really any better than just any toy you could pick up anywhere else? I am here to tell you they are better! Recently, I was given the opportunity to write a review of any of their products up to $50.00. I was able to order four toys using my $50 credit.

This first item I ordered is the Deluxe Pounding Bench Toddler Toy. My two-year old loves it! The way the toy is build every time one peg is hit the one on the other side raises back up. That way there are always pegs to hit. It is built very well….trust me it took a beating! Since he first played with it he has been toting it around the house and had dropped it several times. The toy is holding up very well and he still enjoys playing.

The second toy is the Shape Sorting Cube Classic Toy. I remember having one of these toys as a kid and really enjoyed it once I figured it out. I remember feeling smart and proud of myself! The box is made of wood and very sturdy. You can see Zack is concentrating very hard to try to figure out when the shape will fit through. He played with this toy for a long time and was enjoying the challenge presented to him. He did figure out also very quickly how to slide the one side open to get all the shapes back out.

The third toy is the Vehicles Mix ‘n Match Peg Puzzle – 9 Pieces. Zackery is only two so this toy seemed to present more of a challenge for him. Which, I think is wonderful! He could get the shapes in but, would not always get the correct color. So, I was helping him to see that the colors also matched-up. Very useful for teaching him his colors!!

The fourth toy I ordered is the Froggy Kickball. My husband was the most excited about this toy lol. He said it is hard to find a good kickball. The kids have been playing outside with the ball for over a week now and it is still going strong. They did kick it over the fence a few time too. 🙂 The frog face really makes it cute and special.

The day I gave the toys to the kids if was very cold so not exactly a good day to play outside so you see the ball quickly became an inside basketball toy lol.

  9. Melissa and Doug have been making my kidos playtime meaningful since they were just little…….Now we get to spoil Twin nephews! They would love that Froggy! They’ve got a birthday coming and I have been trying to find an idea that owning two of wouldn’t be silly, Froggy is perfect!

  11. They are really some of the best toys on the market. My 3 year old daughter has Sensory Processing Disorder. With it, she tends to break crayons on purpose so she can pull off the paper. They have crayons that she can’t break at all. All of the toys she has had that are Melissa and Doug brand have just been really sturdy. I’m totally loving the kickball. I really want one for myself…I mean my daughter 😉

  13. Great review–that is a lot of things for $50.00 for the little guy– We were able to get our Pierce a wooden truck for his Christmas gift this last year. Talk about nice–and so durable. It will be a long while before it falls apart–or maybe long enough to pass down to the next youngest one in our group–thanks

  14. i love that Melissa and Doug makes these classic toys still! I love the old fashioned toys from my childhood! I would love to see my kids pounding the pegs in the bench and finding the holes for the shapes! Wat to go Melissa and Doug, your products truly are amazing!

  23. I love the Melissa and Doug toys… the blocks and toy trucks we have gotten from them have held up through 4 kids…3 of them boys…lol.. so I can’t say enough good things about them 🙂

  24. My grandson has practically only M&D toys – they are the best quality, minimal plastic, sturdy and fun/educational. What else could you want for a toy?

I enjoy all of their toys – in fact got one just the other day that is called Peek-a-Boo Panda – it is black and white, it shows the face and it is peek-a-boo because it has little paws that cover its eyes – too cute, especially since we have been playing pee-a-boo! I would love any of their toys – I think they are well made and my two daughters love all of the activities, since most are learning-type toys!

  30. I also love Melissa & Doug toys! I have a bunch that my daughter used when she was little that are still in great shape. My son now enjoys them:) I love that they make some of the old classic toys also.

  32. M&D toys are high quality. The puzzle box is great. My little one likes to take the puzzles in and out, a bonus activity! I also love the tool kit, boys and girls like this for a long time, they can do whatever with the tools, they are not restricted to the toy space.

  33. Their toys are educational and functional. Really fun to play with. Cute pictures of your son playing with them. We love our puzzles too. I have noticed if the pieces are not in just so they can make noise in the night , ha ha . All handmade! Put them all back in and no noise.

  34. Hooray for M&D. They have a great range of products. I love that many of their products are wooden. It would be too difficult to choose just one as my favorite.

  40. I would love the Shape Sorting Cube Classic Toy. I love how it is sturdy and can keep attention for a longer period of time. I had a similar toy and it was how I learned all of my shapes!

  42. I like to buy Melissa and Doug products for my grandchildren whenever possible. My favorites have been the Trunki I purchased for my grandson and the sand toys. Melissa and Doug products are designed well and durable.

  45. I agree that Melissa and Doug toys are very sturdy and durable. That is always a plus for parents. I’d be choosing some toys for a younger child, but appreciate knowing about any of their toys 🙂

  57. From this review I can tell that Melissa & Doug toys are very well made toys. Makes me want to get them for my Grandchildren..The Froggie kick ball would be great for them..I have a big Back yard and thats where they play. They would all have a great time with it..

  62. That was a good review. I know that their stuff is good, but I love what you said about the tool bench and how as you pound one peg in, another pops out. And I was also thinking about getting my grandson the shape-sorter.

  101. We have their puzzles and they are fantastic. Made of durable wood and non-toxic paint keeps the kids entertained and safe. What more can you ask of a toy.

  102. The sorting cube and the pounding blocks are great! I’d love to see more kids playing with toys like this that spark your imagination, instead of playing with devices all the time.
