Why You Should Use Battery Operated Lights
Electricity is quickly becoming more and more expensive yet, it is necessary to have light in order to function in your home. With little kids, candles are not the best of ideas. Many young children are scared of the dark and need the option to flip a switch and quickly have light. So, how can you keep your lights running the way you want while not using more than your share of electricity?
Battery Operated Lights
Fortunately, new technologies have given the modern consumer the option of purchasing battery operated lamps. These lamps obviously run with the use of batteries and don’t require an outlet or electricity to work. If you stock up on rechargeable batteries and keep them recharged, these lights can work for many hours.
Benefits
There are many benefits to using these lamps, along with battery operated tea lights. Do you have young children who like to have a light on while they sleep, but don’t want to pay for the expensive electricity that is required to keep a light running all night? You have your solution with these lamps because they are battery operated, they will run without costing you money, other than the cost of a few batteries rechargeable batteries. These lamps can be a great asset to any child’s room, whether as a nightlight or as a simple reading lamp.
In the case of an emergency or natural disaster, you may quickly find your home without power. When these things happen, you may be amazed to realize how often you rely on your electricity to do little things. But we have learned that it is often necessary to be self sufficient, and that there are times when the power goes out and can’t be restored. If you can’t afford to install a generator, or don’t want to run yours regularly, investing in battery operated lights is a great way to ensure that your family still has light to function.
These lights are also a great tool for decorating large events, such as weddings. If you are looking for the glow of subdued lighting, but don’t have enough outlets to house all the lights, consider using these. You won’t have to run extension cords to different parts of the room and you can use as many as you need.
Along with this, these lamps are easily taken wherever you go. If you would like to read in an area with bad lighting, you can simply pick up a lamp and take it with you. If you need stronger lighting to finish a project in the garage, take a lamp with you. They don’t require electricity, you won’t be dodging cords and carrying them with you.
While electricity offers you many modern conveniences, there are inevitably times when you must go without. It is important that you be prepared for those times and ready to function without electricity. Using battery operated lights is a great way to do just that.

I would definitely rather use battery operated lights instead of candles; there’s always the risk of starting a fire with candles, but you wouldn’t have to worry about that with battery operated lights. Thanks for posting!
Wanda Tracey says
You made a lot of good points in this excellent review. The safety end of it just out weighs all the other aspects.

when my son was younger he had to have a nightlight, found one of those battery operated lights that are kind of flat and round where you push on the light to turn it on. He loved it. Great review thanks for sharing!

I had no idea that there was battery operated lamps now, I love it! I haven’t found a battery operated night light that I’m happy with! I want to try out one of the lamps though. Thanks for the great info!

The idea of battery operated candles makes me feel so much safer! I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve forgotten about a lit candle and actually left my house or gone to bed for the night! It’s a blessing nothing bad has ever happened. I’m on board for battery operated candles for their peace of mind and because you can place them in areas where you may not be able to put a lit candle, such as in the nursery or high up on a shelf.
Sandy Klocinski says
Great review! I use both but I don’t have any kids. I want to try out the battery operated lamps
Karen Jaras says
I hate to waste all the batteries. Rather than buy pricey rechargables that need to be plugged in, I would love to see them in a solar.
Norah Ali says
This is very helpful, thank you.
Rachel O'Reilly says
We use a mixture of plug in night lights and solar lights. We keep them in the window during the day and then are fully charged by night time.

I think my animals have knocked over a lot more things than my son ever did and they like to chew on wires, yes even the cat. I also live in Florida where thunderstorms knock the electricity out so we are always prepared. As much as I love Amazon I find the dollar store is great for battery powered lights and candles.
Magdalena says
Thank you for this great review on these battery operated lamps. I did not know that these were available but I will be looking into them.
Rachel says
Great review. Thanks for the tips. I will have to get some now.
clojo9372 says
i do not have children, but even so i think it would be dangerous to use candles in case of a power outtage. anyone could make a mistake and knock one over. the same could be said for lanterns! i have solar/12volt lights instead of those kind of lamps, BUT i recommend that everyone who doesn’t have a backup power system have a battery operated lamp. much safer.
Edna Williams says
Great safety posting! Thanks for sharing!
Dana Rodriguez says
I never thought about it before but this makes perfect sense!
Heather E. says
What a great post! I actually fall asleep with my reading lamp on quite often. I’ll wake up in the morning only to see it’s been on all night. I’ve considered installing a timer on my lamp, but this idea is so much better–especially if there’s ever a power outage. Another great idea would be solar powered lights. I’ve seen some projects like that on Pinterest but have not yet had the opportunity to try them out. Thanks for the idea!
Barrie says
You have made some valid points on battery operated lights, ones I never would have thought of. We have a few night lights and motion detected battery operated lights.

I’m glad I read this post! Where we live, it is very sunny. While that’s great for daytime, at night it gets very dark and fast! Thanks for the tip of not only using other light sources but doubling your benefits by using rechargeable batteries. I didn’t know they made lamps that use them. I will have to browse online, and check some out.

So thru they are safer. Bur when storing batteries dont have the ends touch each other . I heard that they can spark. I especially like the little lights that look like candle tips . Battery operated lights are great for the kids rooms as a night light too.

You have to be sure kids can’t open the battery case, as they are a choking hazard and toxic if swallowed. Same for pets.

denise smith says
we use rechargeable batteries in pretty much everything it has saved us alot of money over the years and we like them
Red_Baron says
Thanks for acknowledging these are always useful and practical for many purposes as you stated, in addition, also related to the rechargable batteries topic, there is the option to store electricity with huge capacities, such as with products like “Tesla Powerwall”, even though they are not that cheap, its cost can be justified if it is to be used with solar panels. Also using the lights while asleep may affect the secretion of growth hormones in an adverse manner, especially in the childhood, so its better to sleep in the dark rather than under the light both for children and adults.
Brandon Sparks says
Thanks for the great info. I am going to have to get me some for the house..

You`re not kidding about the rising cost of electricity! There are areas in my city that can`t get natural gas and have to heat with electricity – can you imagine the heating cost in a Canadian winter?
I don`t have children but I use battery lights in closets and the attic. I hadn`t thought of using them instead of candles when the electricity goes out. I will have to see how they compare to candles because I love candle light.
Judy Thomas says
We are replacing our outdoor lights with solar powered ones. The next step will be to get solar panels on the roof.
Sherry Compton says

You make so many excellent points here! Kudos to you. I’ll admit that when I first saw the title of this post I thought, Why would someone advocate for using disposable batteries??! Of course, this was based on a faulty assumption. I’m glad I caught this post, and once again I thank you for providing such a thorough and excellent post.
